World leaders call for UN response after Maduro capture

(The Center Square) – The international community is reacting to the news that President Donald Trump announced early in the morning on social media: The U.S. carried out a series of strikes on Venezuela overnight and apprehended Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife. In the hours since, many world leaders have come out against America’s actions, including from Mexico, Cuba, Brazil, Columbia, China, Iran and Russia. The Mexican government released an official statement “strongly” condemning the attack, saying the U.S. was “in clear violation” of the United Nations Charter. “The Government of Mexico… rejects the military actions unilaterally carried out in recent hours by the armed forces of the United States of America against targets within the territory of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,” the statement reads.
