But those arguments took on new importance Wednesday as U.S. senators made the case for and against the new federal tax-credit scholarship program during an enthusiastic hearing Wednesday. The landmark program was established by last year’s One Big Beautiful Bill and enthusiastically supported by President Donald Trump. The tax credit could potentially generate billions for families’ private school tuition, as well as homeschooling and academic enrichment costs. But states have to opt in.
